Institute of Soil Science Inaugurated at PMAS-AAUR

Realizing the importance of soil & water conservation, the department of Soil Science & Soil and Water Conservation (SS&SWC), which was established in 1985 in then Barani Agricultural College Rawalpindi is upgraded to the Institute of Soil Science at the main campus of Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) on Spetember 26, 2017.

 

The Institute was inaugurated by PMAS-AAUR Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Rai Niaz Ahmad while Deans, Directors, faculty members and students were also present.

 

Prof. Dr. Khalid Saifullah Khan, Chairman of the Department, in his welcome address briefly described the history of the Department and emphasized the need of its up gradation into the Institute.

 

Prof. Dr. Rai Niaz Ahmad, while addressing, highlighted the importance of efficient use of farm inputs and urged the soil scientists to play leading role in conservation of land and water resources. He said that agricultural productivity profoundly depends on the soil health, therefore it is utmost important to protect the natural resources. He stressed the need to adopt latest agricultural practices to boost production in order to feed the increasing population.

 

Prof. Dr. Rai Niaz Ahmad highlighted the objectives of the up gradation of the department as institute and said that this institute will not only educate undergraduate and graduate students but will also help to solve the problems related to soil & water conservation, soil fertility and sustainable productivity in more beneficent manner.
