There is substantial evidence that engaging students and faculty is a pre-requisite to enhance learning standards. To me, in higher education, the quality learning extends far beyond the discipline or subject specific knowledge acquired during a period of studying. It focuses on empowering learners and "rests on the belief that individuals are, or can become, self-directing, and that they will see the value in engaging in lifelong goals". Consequently responsibility of inspiring the future generations, exploring and exploiting their inherent capabilities comes on the shoulders of the teaching community. Education is our national priority. A properly educated nation can generate better societal and economic values, and contribute to the prosperity of the country. I am sure the newly established Directorate of Quality Enhancement at the Arid University will ensure quality education with active participation of the faculty and will guide the faculty by providing resources and tools necessary to help them improve the quality of education and research through an art of self accountability. Besides, the QEC, with active cooperation and contribution of the faculty, will make efforts to get this university recognized globally as a great research university - committed to prosper and advance the lives of students, faculty and alumni as well as the local, national and international communities. Vision of the QEC should be the development of leadership through Excellence in Education. I am confident about potential of the QEC as well as the faculty and do believe that their joint efforts will improve quality of teaching, research, and scholarship.
