Outcome Based Education (OBE)

About OBE

Outcome Based Education (OBE) is an educational approach that focuses on what students are able to know, understand, and perform at the end of a learning process rather than what is merely taught in the classroom. Its importance lies in ensuring quality education, transparency, and relevance by aligning teaching, learning activities, and assessment methods with clearly defined learning outcomes, making graduates more competent and industry-ready. In OBE, a course file serves as a documented evidence of planning and implementation and should include course information, course learning outcomes (CLOs) mapped with program learning outcomes (PLOs), weekly teaching plans, lecture notes, assessment tools (quizzes, assignments, mid and final exams), rubrics, attendance records, and students’ evaluated work. The evaluation procedure in OBE is systematic and continuous, involving both formative and summative assessments where each assessment is linked to specific CLOs, performance is measured using predefined rubrics, and attainment levels are calculated to judge whether learning outcomes are achieved. Based on the results, a continuous quality improvement (CQI) process is carried out to identify gaps and improve teaching strategies, course content, and assessment methods for future offerings.
