Vision Statement
The Department of Eastern Medicine is committed to establishing a nationally and globally
recognized center of excellence in Eastern Medicine by integrating indigenous healing
wisdom with modern biomedical research, entrepreneurial innovation, and community-based
clinical training. The department envisions shaping the future of healthcare systems through
natural product research and evidence-based holistic practices that contribute to sustainable
development, national well-being, and global health resilience.
Mission Statement
The Department of Eastern Medicine is committed to delivering transformative education,
integrative healthcare training, and translational research. Through its five-year Bachelor of
Eastern Medicine and Surgery (BEMS) program, the department aims to:
- Educate: Train competent, ethical, and skilled practitioners in Eastern Medicine
equipped with modern diagnostic and therapeutic knowledge as per HEC's minimum
curriculum standards.
- Innovate: Conduct applied and translational research in medicinal plants and natural
products, particularly indigenous flora, for drug discovery and nutraceuticals.
- Clinically Empower: Offer structured clinical rotations and internships in
collaboration with affiliated hospitals and wellness centers as per HEC's practical
training requirements.
- Commercialize: Encourage entrepreneurship by supporting student-led herbal
product startups, wellness clinics, and alternative health enterprises aligned with
national innovation policies.
- Engage: Promote integrative and culturally-relevant healthcare solutions to benefit underserved communities and contribute to national health goals.
Salient Features of the BEMS Program
- A fully accredited five-year degree recognized by the National Council for Tibb
(NCT) and the Higher Education Commission (HEC).
- Integrated curriculum combining Unani fundamentals with modern diagnostics,
pharmacognosy, pathology, and public health.
- Hands-on clinical training at the university's Eastern Medicine Hospital and affiliated
clinics.
- Herbal garden and pharmacopeia lab for practical identification and processing of
medicinal plants.
- Courses on entrepreneurship, marketing, Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and
certified herbal product development.
- Career pathways in clinical practice, natural product R&D, public health, academia,
