About ORIC

The Office of Research, Innovation & Commercialization (ORIC) was established at the university in January 2011. Office of Research, Innovation & Commercialization a central staff office reporting to the Vice Chancellor, is charged with administrative responsibility for all University research and related activities involving extramural sponsorship. In fulfilling its duties, the Office of Research serves as both a centre of advocacy for research and related activities, and facilitator of the research environment.

Objectives

  • Enhance research quality, relevance, and global competitiveness
  • Promote innovation, commercialization, and knowledge transfer
  • Strengthen strategic planning, standards, and research governance
  • Mobilize funding and streamline internal research processes
  • Build strong partnerships with industry, government, and communities
  • Provision of advisory support, and monitoring of research activities
  • Strengthening of university–industry–government–community linkages
  • Facilitation in national and international research funding opportunities
  • Commercialize university intellectual property through licensing and spin-offs
  • Manage an annual research support budget (HEC 15% grant, overheads, university and contributions)
