OPEN HOUSE HELD AT PMAS-AAUR



University Institute of Information Technology (UIIT) of Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) organized its 7th annual Open House On June 26, 2014, to strengthen the linkage between industry & academia and to provide an opportunity to students to show their abilities as well as enable them to understand market trends.

 

More than 150 students of UIIT, including BSCS, MCS, MIT, and MS (CS) displayed their variety of unique and innovative IT based projects in a day-long Open House, which was attended by the 134 industry professionals from 35 different software development companies.

 

Speaking on the occasion, PMAS-AAUR, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Rai Niaz Ahmad being chief guest lauded the projects presented by young students and emphasized to develop more agriculture related applications so that farmers and people of Pakistan can benefit from latest Information and Communication Technologies. He urged them to give equal importance to theory and practical application of their degree subjects.

 

He said science and technology plays vital role in the progress of developing countries that is why PMAS-AAUR keenly focuses on further improving its Information Technology Institute. He urged strong linkages between the academia and industry.  He stressed upon the students to devote their selves for knowledge and assured them of every possible support from PMAS-AAUR in the regard of creative and unique projects.

 

Earlier, Dr. Muhammad Mubashir, Director, UIIT, also gave a detailed briefing to the chief guest about the projects of the students. Vice Chancellor along with faculty members of the university visited the stalls arranged by the students and appreciated the efforts and creativity of the students. He said that active participation of the students with unique and innovative ideas in the university open house is a proof of the fact the students of the institute have a lot of potential.

 

The software projects are integral component of every computing related degree through which students can showcase the software solutions to resolve issues of real life problems. Students not only displayed their projects but also availed the opportunity to meet experts from Industry and Academia. The event also provided a great opportunity for all the industry professionals and students alike to take maximum benefit from this “Open House”. On the occasion, these companies conducted on spot interviews of 120 graduating students, 19 students were offered jobs at spot, while some of the companies will call the more than 30 students after initial processing.
