VICE CHANCELLOR RELEASED FISH IN UNIVERSITY WATER RESERVIOR



Prof. Dr. Rai Niaz Ahmad, Vice Chancellor, Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) has said that Potohar Region is most suitable for fish production in Pakistan due to its ideal atmosphere, abundance of rainwater and natural depressions.

 

 

He stated this while addressing on the ceremony of Releasing Fish in University Rain Water Harvested Reservoir, October 15, 2014He further said that the region has immense potential for harvesting fish as fish farmers have nothing to do but just block water by erecting a wall around it.

 

While talking about Fish farming, the Vice Chancellor said the main objective is to provide excellence in higher education, training, research and development, services and advice in the fields of sustainable fisheries and aquaculture thus contributing to economic and social development of our country. He further stated that the administration is endeavoring to further improve existing facilities and infrastructure at varsity fish farm so that modern fisheries research facilities can be extended to students and researchers. 

 

 

He informed the gathering that PMAS-AAUR is giving special importance to research in the science departments so that the students could compete with and get success in practical life after completing their education. He said that the students of Zoology Department are fortunate that they were practically doing fish farming and getting educated. He said that production of fish has been increased along with maintaining standard and we are taking steps so that production could be made double in future and employees can get fish on low rates.

 

 

Besides, Dean Faculty of Crop and Food Sciences Prof. Dr. Safdar Ali, Dean Sciences Prof. Dr. S. M. Saqlain Naqvi, Registrar Dr. Sarwat Naz Mirza Chairman Zoology Department Dr Mazher Qaayyum, faculty members, university officers, students and a large number of employees were present on the occasion.
