The academic Council of the Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) has approved establishment of new Institute of Geographic Information System (GIS) and also recommended special seats for the students of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.
The 54th meeting of the academic council was held on August 5, 2016 under the chairmanship of Prof. Dr. Rai Niaz Ahmad, Vice Chancellor at main Campus. Senior Faculty members, teaching heads, librarian, Registrar, Deans of Faculties, Directors of institutes and Controller Examination attended the meeting.
While chairing the meeting, PMAS-AAUR Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Rai Niaz Ahmad said that strong academic section plays vital role to give acknowledgement and peculiarity to any university and to achieve the defined goals in the domain of higher education. He said that scholarships, hostel accommodations, transport, laboratories, libraries, classrooms etc and other facilities were also increased and upgraded keeping in view the increasing number of students in wake of these new programs.
According to details the academic council after thorough discussions had given approval of PhD in Remote Sensing & GIS, MS Remote Sensing & GIS, BS Geo-Informatics under the newly established Institute of GIS. Vice chancellor also recommended that being future science remote sensing and GIS be part of all agriculture discipline
Under Prime Minister’s directive, in a meeting it was also decided that one seat in each faculty will be reserved for Afghanistan’s students.
Being an agricultural University, the council also approved one agriculture course be part in every degree program of the university specially management sciences and information technology. It was further decided that special problem report will be part of each degree program especially marketing or entrepreneurship
The Council also approved the academic calendar of the university for the year 2016-2017.
The Academic Council also approved amendments and additions to the courses of various academic programs and took various decisions on the improvement of the degree programs at the campus. The meeting also endorsed the minutes of last 53rd meeting of the Academic Council.
At the end, Vice Chancellor thanked all the members for their participation and valuable contribution made by them in the meeting.
