The 56th academic Council of the Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) was held on September 26, 2016 under the chairmanship of Prof. Dr. Rai Niaz Ahmad, Vice Chancellor at main Campus. Senior Faculty members, teaching heads, librarian, Registrar, Deans of Faculties, Directors of institutes and Controller Examination also attended the meeting.
While chairing the meeting University’s Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Rai Niaz Ahmad said that the focus of university research has been shifted to identify and solve the indigenous problems and to introduce cutting edge technology in agricultural sector of the country. This strategic shift would play a vital role in strengthening the agricultural economy of country.
He said the university is perusing excellence in teaching and research and contributing in strengthening the agricultural economy of the country by producing and providing quality human resource. Vice Chancellor said that PMAS-AAUR is fully committed to strengthening the agricultural economy according to its mandate especially under the kissan package of the government.
The council in its meeting approved that students of each department especially management sciences & information technology not only have to study one agriculture course but also have to perform practical/entrepreneurial in their degree programs to solve the problem facing by agriculture sector. Participants were of the view that this decision will make a major contribution to the agricultural advancement across the country and will also helpful to create awareness among the farming community by sharing positive ideas and experiences.
Vice Chancellor informed the gathering that after performing the valuable services for the promotion of agriculture and students training, PMAS-AAUR is standing on 152nd position in the world agriculture and forestry universities from 2013 to till date by QS World Universities Ranking. Ranking by International Green Matrix in 2015 Arid Agriculture University was named the second best university in Pakistan, he added.
The Vice Chancellor accentuate that the standards of Quality of higher education in Pakistan need to be improved to achieve the goals of competitiveness with the international standards. He further said, "There is no compromise on Quality and merit is the only criteria for our selection of new faculty for this university." He appreciated efforts of the faculty for their dynamic roles to enhance the quality of education and research in the University particularly in agriculture sector to meet the international standards. He urged the participants to adapt best practices, equip themselves with the quality tools and play their roles as mangers to take this institution to one of the best educational institutions of the world.
Dr Rai Niaz Ahmad was of the opinion that PMAS-AAUR is contributing to the improvement of national agricultural economy as its mandate. This evidence formed the practical training of farmers in agriculture and livestock sector in the pak-Korea Capacity Building Center and launching of the New Village Movements Project in the region Pothohar. Vice Chancellor hoped that soon Arid varsity not only in Pakistan but internationally will achieve prominent position in the world agriculture universities horizon.
The Academic Council also approved amendments and additions Management and information technology courses of various Agriculture programs and took various decisions on the improvement of the degree programs at the campus. The meeting also endorsed the minutes of last 55th meeting of the Academic Council.
