The Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) organized a seminar to celebrate the World Food Da on October 20, 2016, with the theme of this year’s “Climate is changing. Food and agriculture must too.”
The World Food Day celebrated as an annual event at University to eradicate hunger, malnutrition, poverty and to increase public awareness about food security, climate change, healthy diet and lifestyles.
PMAS-AAUR in collaboration with Indus Consortium and OXFAM organized the seminar and the University’s Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Rai Niaz Ahmad was the chief guest. Government officials, agri scientists, faculty members, students, representatives of non-governmental organizations, progressive male and female farmers across the country participated in the celebration.
While addressing the participants of the seminar, Prof. Dr. Rai Niaz Ahmad Vice Chancellor PMAS-AAUR highlighted the importance of food, food production, food security, nutrition and stressed on the initiating value addition of agriculture products to eradicate poverty and lead the country towards prosperity. He said there is so much potential in agriculture sector and our responsibility is to provide and create awareness about new agricultural technology and innovations at small farmer’s doorsteps. He said that scientists and teachers should play their due role to create awareness regarding food and other challenges so that future of new generation could be secured. He said society should also play its due role in addressing food crisis in the country and there is dire need to utilizing scientific measures to produce healthy crops to meet the food requirements of the growing population.
Prof. Dr. Rai Niaz Ahmad along with faculty members and students also inaugurated Grow Green campaign in University premises.
