He appreciated the efforts of PMAS-AAUR on establishment of this unit and hoped that it should be promoted by creating public awareness. He said that the present government has made a comprehensive development package to resolve the energy crisis being faced by the country and the energy crisis would be resolved till 2018.
Earlier, PMAS-AAUR Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Rai Niaz Ahmad briefed the functions, aims and objectives for the establishment of this Bio-energy unit. He said that solid waste is collected from the campus and recycled into useful/beneficial products without any sort of pollution. He recommended that Pakistan is an appropriate country for the installation of Bio-mass and Bio-energy installations and there is a dire need to explore these resources in order to fulfill the current needs of the country. It will also helpful to reduce the country's dependence on any single source, particularly imported fossil fuels, he added. He also informed that Pakistan does not process its domestic and industrial waste effectively, which means that a great opportunity to develop alternative fuel is wasted while the environment also suffers from untreated waste. The daily domestic waste should be used to fill the energy gap, he added.
