A welcome party was arranged in the honor of Prof. Dr. Rai Niaz Ahmad on his appointment as Vice Chancellor of Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi at University Campus on February 19, 2013.
On the occasion, Deans of the faculties, Director of the institutes and Directorates, Principal Officers, Faculty members and University administration were present. Prior to the Vice Chancellor’s address Deans of the faculties and Directors of the institutes formally delivered welcome speeches. In welcome words the learned Deans and Directors warmly welcomed the Vice Chancellor and assured their cooperation to bring the University at par with institutes of higher learning of the country.
Prof. Dr. Rai Niaz Ahmad, Vice Chancellor, PMAS-AAUR in his address outlined his vision for the University and sought the dedicated participation of the faculty and administration to achieve the set forth goal of economic uplift of the arid zone through the high quality agricultural graduates and research endeavors of the University.
Dr. Niaz committed that participative decision approach will be followed in all the strategic level decisions of the University. He was of the view that together we can bring a lot of positive changes not only in the structure of the University but also in the academic spheres being offered at the University.
Dr. Niaz stressed that mandate of the University being a professional institute enforce that we should come out of our campuses and spend more time in fields to bring a farmer economically at par with the farmers of international agrarian economies. He said we should not let forget our farmers who are also part of our families that they have made precious contributions in our brought up to this noble profession of academicians, now it’s our turn to pay back them in the shape of our skills & knowledge we have created in our laboratories.
Dr. Niaz while elaborating his vision for the University suggested that we should look beyond the boundaries of our motherland and strive to open new avenues in the Middle Eastern countries either through collaborative research initiatives or exporting value added agricultural produce to these markets. He further said that it is high time to think out of the box and we should open our campuses in Middle East to develop long lasting relationships with these countries and create a win win situation for them as well as Pakistan and Pakistan’s Farmers.
