Seminar on dengue control and prevention

A seminar on dengue control and prevention was held at Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University on August 27, 2019 with an aim to raise awareness among the citizens against the disease.

Speakers recommended preventive measures against the dengue mosquitoes and stressed the importance of collective preventive measures against it. They also urged the university employees and students to ensure cleanliness of the campus and their homes.

University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Qamar Uz Zaman chaired the seminar, which was organized by the Department of Entomology and Botany.

The Vice Chancellor said awareness played a key role in the fight against dengue because prevention was far better than cure. He stressed the need for collective as well as individual efforts along with collaboration of all stakeholders of the state for the awareness, implementation and control of any epidemic.

He urged the faculty members and students to study the behavior of species for diagnosing and formulating the policies regarding its control and management.

Dr Mohammad Arshad, Dean Faculty of Sciences/Convener Dengue Programme, said it was the responsibility of every citizen to play their role in controlling dengue by adopting precautionary measures.

Dr Mohammad Tariq from the Department of Entomology gave presentation on various aspects of dengue fever, its stages and prevention and control.

He also highlighted ways to control various developmental stages of dengue from its eggs to larva and full grown mosquitoes.
