Tree Plantation Campaign Started at University Research Farm Koont

A tree plantation campaign and a project on "Evaluation and Introduction of some Exotic Kiwi Cultivars" was inaugurated by the vice chancellor of the Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University, Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) Prof. Dr Qamar Zaman on its Koont Research Farm, On August 20. 2020, which is being funded by Punjab Agriculture Research Board under the vision of Prime Minister Clean Green Pakistan.


The main purpose of this project is to climatize the Kiwi plants according to the Pothohar region which can be a high valuable and profitable for the locals. All Dean, Directors and other faculty members were also present at the occasion.


While talking to the participants the vice chancellor of the university said that plantation a tree is perpetual charity and the fruit plants are the above in this which considers as a sunnah. Due to urbanization, deforestation was at its peak which caused Pakistan to fall in the most affected countries for climate change in the world but 1st time in Pakistan any Government has taken initiative towards plantation at national level he said which is also appreciated at international level. He said that in Pakistan we have a bigger issue than plantation and that is overlooking & caring of that plant till its grooming.


At the occasion Dr Qamar said that by planting fruits trees Pakistan can deal with its two new emerging threats climate change and hunger. He asked all participants to work hard for the success of government's Clean Green Pakistan campaign by mobilizing people towards tree plantation.


Earlier, Dr. Qamar uz Zaman planted a kiwi plant and also appreciated the ongoing research work at the University Research Farm and said that with the hard work of all university's staff this research farm would be converted into smart farm in near future.
