A flag-hoisting ceremony was held at the Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) on Wednesday morning to commemorate the country’s Independence Day. The vice-chancellor PMAS-AAUR, Prof. Dr. Rai Niaz Ahmad, , Registrar Mr. Shahid Ali Khan, Controller of examinations, deans of all faculties, administrative officers, employees and a large number of students attended the ceremony.
Addressing the gathering after the hoisting of the national flag, the vice-chancellor stated that freedom is a great blessing. He said that the value of independence could be gauged from the miserable plight of Muslims living in India, Kashmir and Palestine. He further said that Quaid-e-Azam diverted the powers of Muslim nation towards the way of freedom, but after the independence this spirit declined, resulting in individual development instead of the nation's upbringing.
The Vice Chancellor asked the faculty and students that they have not only to maintain that independence but should further consolidate and strengthen it.The vice chancellor said that it is the responsibility of youth especially the students to translate the dreams of founder of that nation into reality and to make Pakistan a prosperous and developed country. He urged upon students and faculty members to work hard with commitment and dedication so that to make university a model institution in line with contemporary global standards.
Young boys and girls were carrying miniature Pakistani flags which they warmly waved during proceedings of the function and presented national songs. Sweets were also distributed among children.
A special prayer was also offered for the prosperity and solidarity of the country
