Speakers strongly recommended to take preventive steps to reduce the danger of heart disease and emphasized to educate the people about heart diseases, their causes and precautionary measures.
They stated this at a seminar on “Cardiovascular Diseases” held at Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR), with an aim to disseminate awareness about heart diseases and preventive measures, here on Thursday. PMAS-AAUR, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Rai Niaz Ahmad was the chief guest while Executive Director (ED) of the Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology (RIC), Major General (R) Azhar Mehmood Kayani , was the guest of the honor on the occasion.
Major General Azhar Mahmood Kayani while delivering his lecture explained the causes, remedies and medication of heart diseases. He explained the structure of heart & symptoms of heart diseases and warned that the junk food, overeating, smoking, high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol level and depression are the main causes of heart diseases.
He informed the gathering that heart diseases are rapidly growing in Pakistan. Previously it was considered that mostly people in old ages are at risk with heart diseases, however, latest medical research shows that young people, especially children and women are also at the same risk.
He advised that risk of heart attacks can be reduced with confidence by remaining active through exercise/daily walk, maintaining an appropriate weight, taking a diet rich in fruits, vegetables and fish and low in refined carbohydrates, and finally by abstaining from harmful acquired habits like smoking, & alcoholic drink. It is important that peoples should regularly get their complete heart check-up to avoid possible heart diseases, he added
He also appreciated that PMAS-AAUR is offering such a great health care awareness and information concerning the heart disease so as they can prevent it with suitable measures among its staff.
Prof. Dr. Rai Niaz Ahmad, Vice Chancellor, PMAS-AAUR, speaking as chief guest urged to raise awareness among the masses regarding the cardiovascular disease & its prevention and stressed upon the need of promoting preventive measures to reduce cardiovascular diseases.
He said that easy living and laziness are the root cause of heart diseases and people should adopt a healthy lifestyle as well as take exercise to protect themselves from cardiac diseases. Similarly, he said, smoking and fats should be avoided.
He was of the view that one of the easiest ways to prevent cardiac diseases was to adopt a positive attitude and helping others. This will reduce worries in one’s life. He said anger and haste might be harmful to heart.
He urged the faculty members and students that it’s agricultural scientist to work on quality food. If a nation get good food cardiovascular diseases chances will be very limited. He also informed the gathering that University has also established its vegetable nursery from where everyone can get plants/seeds and get fresh vegetables at their home.
A large number of, faculty members & students were also present and asked various questions.
It may be recalled that PMAS-AAUR as a part of its community Service Responsibility organized various different awareness activities for public/community awareness and this seminar was also chain of such activities to educate & create awareness among masses about cardiovascular diseases.
