Seminar On Agriculture Development In Pakistan

Prof. Dr. Rai Niaz Ahmad, Vice Chancellor, PMAS-Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi, said the country is blessed with precious natural resources including four seasons.He said that a lot of work has been done in production side but it was need of time to address other co-related issues like crop management and post harvest losses. He stated this while addressing at a seminar on �Agriculture development in Pakistan�, which was organized by Al-ghurair Giga Private limited on February 25, 2014. He called upon the students to adopt agri-sector as career for making the country a food safe and secure country and rapid economic development for the country. He said that despite an agricultural country, Pakistan is still importing most of food products and spending its precious foreign reserves to fulfill the domestic requirements which are a matter of concern for all. He stressed the need for improving the per acre crop out-put by utilizing innovative technologies as well as addressing the farm management issues to alleviate poverty from the farming community. In a seminar on Agriculture development in Pakistan presenting his credentials to Dr. Miftah Ismail (Chairman Board of Investment), Renowned Scientist Dr. Abdul Qadir Khan, His Excellency Ambassador of South Korea Dr. Song Jong Hwan, Mr. Mian Soomro (Former Prime Minister, Chairman Senate and Former acting President of Pakistan), and to Haji Muhammad Rafiq Giga and Haji Muhammad Amin Giga from Giga Group of companies. The connoisseur Dr. Shin Dong-Hyun (Director Institute of Agriculture Science and Technology, Kyungpook National University), Mr. Lu WEI (Director at Beijing Life Sciences Technology Development Institute), and Dr. Rai Niaz Ahmed (Vice Chancellor Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi) agreed that there is an urgent need for the agriculture sector in Pakistan to improve its performance and enable farmers to raise their yields through better agriculture techniques. In the seminar, Giga Group of companies took the initiative to train the farmers in how to increase on-farm productivity, better irrigation management, more effective means for production of superior-quality seeds, post-harvest handling of crops, to introduce plant breeds and genetics, value-addition and marketing and more advanced techniques in on-farm management. Another important subject of the agenda was, dairy farming in the vast deserts of Pakistan. The speakers gave valuable information as how food for livestock can be managed in the arid areas. Haji Muhammad Rafiq Giga said that it is important to help in the improvement of agriculture environment. He referred to the opportunities in Pakistan in the area of food security and agricultural development. Mr. Giga recounted the success stories in the area of agricultural growth in Pakistan and requested to work with proven models from both Pakistan and globally. In response to His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Song Jong Hwan, the Chairman Giga Group said that 500 Pakistani Students will be sent to the South Korean Agriculture Universities including Kyungpook National University for New Village Movement training to learn the advanced farming techniques as how to increase the yield six times more, and bring them back home where they can apply it and help Pakistan in this sector. In the event, Chines, Korean experts also share their experiences with the participants of the seminar. Renowned Scientist Dr. Abdul Qadir Khan former Chairman Senate, Mian Muhammad Soomro and His Excellency Ambassador of South Korea Dr. Song Jong Hwan,also spoke on the occasion.
