Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) has taken the initiative towards the provision of safe blood products to the needy patients by launching “Aridian Life Saver Blood Donor Society”, with the aim to create awareness about the importance of blood donations in order to help the deserving and needy patients/people around.
On the occasion, Prof. Dr. Rai Niaz Ahmad, Vice Chancellor, PMAS-AAUR was the chief guest. He inaugurated the “Aridian Life Saver Blood Donor Society” at the University campus by cutting a cake.
In his address, Prof. Dr. Rai Niaz Ahmad said that, there is an acute dearth of blood donors in our society, and this could only be sorted out if tendency of voluntary blood donations is boosted. He further added that according to medical research, the act of donating blood is a very healthy activity for the donor. He also emphasized that awareness campaign should be launched amongst the youth in this regard.
Vice Chancellor also highlighted the importance of voluntary blood donations in protecting precious human lives. He further said that in Pakistan the practice of donating blood voluntary is very low as compared to the European countries and due to this reason patient especially those who require regular blood donations, miserably suffer. He appreciated the efforts of organizers for establishing the Blood Donor Society at the campus.
PMAS-AAUR, Department of Zoology, Directorate of Students Affairs also organized a free Blood Camp for students, faculty and employees in collaboration with Blood Bank of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS). The objectives of this camp were to screen out Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C & HIV/AIDS and a free blood group check up, and generate a data base of the volunteer donors.
On the occasion a large number of students, faculty & employees get registered and updated the record of Society for donation of blood and blood samples of the donor students was also taken for free screening for Hepatitis B and C virus. On the occasion, it was also decided that a web site for Blood Donor Society would be launched very soon.
