The Annual Spring Flower Show commenced at Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) here on Friday. This magnificent show is organized in the spring season with the display of wonderful variety of plants and flowers, garden decoration, landscape features ornaments along with rangoli section and various artistic installations.
The show is organized by the Horticulture Department of PMAS-AAUR, with the objectives to promote horticulture activities in homes, create the awareness for the affection of plants and to introduce the rare & precious resources to the common people which are found within the country. In the show more than 300 types of flowers are displayed and 15 institutes are participating by putting flowers from their respective nurseries on display.
The show was inaugurated by PMAS-AAUR, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Rai Niaz Ahmad. Addressing on the occasion, he said that floriculture industry had gained an immense importance and country can earn heavy foreign exchange by promoting it. He viewed that such shows can bring various positive changes in the country. There is a strong need for all of us to take measures and play our part to make this country an ideal place to live in, he added. He further stated that show would also provide healthy entertainment to the residents of twin cities and to provide a platform for students to show their expertise.
There is an exotic flowers competition which is participated by a large number of individuals, organizations, amateurs and professionals in various categories. Different varieties of spring flowers and plants are exhibited in the show. The Annual Flower Show attracts tremendous amount of visitors from twin cities for the heavenly floral pants. The festival is not merely for the display of flowers, Visitors at the festival will find displays for model gardens and floral arrangements- landscaping garden will become a far easier task with professional help. Moreover a huge variety of cacti, bonsai’s and orchids will be up for sale from the best importers and cultivators.
The flowers put on display included Gypsophila, Gamolepis, Acroclinium, Anchusa, Ageratum, Aster, Alyssum, Antirrhinum, Calendula, Candytuft, Corn Flower, Cineraria, Clarkia, Dianthus, Dimorphotheca, English Daisy, Gazania, Godetia, and Helichrysum. Larkspur, Linaria, Linum, Marigold and many others. Besides flowers, different types of plants were also place, included Schefflera, Kalanchoe, Euonymus, Leafy Indoors, Vines, Asparagus Palims, Ferns, Dracaena, Ficus, Junipers, Flowering Shrubs Begonia, Geranium, Scented Leaf Geranium, Pelargonium and Gerbera.
